All Hail The Winners
The verdict for 2019 Lok Sabha elections is out, and the incumbent NDA government has retained power. After a long day of suspense that saw some big-ticket candidates trailing and leading, the winners are here.
From the list of celebrities who tried their luck in politics, some made a stunning debut while others tasted defeat.
Here’s a round-up of the celebrities who made it, and who didn’t.
A Stunning Debut
Actor Sunny Deol and cricketer Gautam Gambhir made a stunning debut this year and made their parent political party proud. Both contested on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from their respective constituencies and proved victorious with an impressive margin.
Deol, contesting from Gurdaspur constituency, defeated Congress’s Sunil Jakhar by a margin of 77,000+ votes.
Gambhir, on the other hand, led in East Delhi by a whopping 3,17,000+ votes.
Battle Of Amethi
One of the most talked about battles of the day was Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani’s stint against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. It was a neck-and-neck competition that continued through the day. While Irani took the lead in the beginning itself, the margin kept fluctuating.
However, it closed with a margin of 35,000+ votes in Irani’s favour.
Sad Day For The Sinha Family
Today’s results did not offer the Sinha family a chance to celebrate. Actor Shatrughan Sinha and his wife Poonam Sinha contested elections from two constituencies on two different political party tickets. However, neither turned out victorious.
Poonam Sinha, who debuted this year on a Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket, contested elections from Lucknow and was pitted against BJP’s Rajnath Singh. Her debut was not an impressive one as she lost to Singh by a gap of 3,11,000+ votes.
The ‘Dostana’ actor, on the other hand, contested on a Congress ticket from Patna Sahib. He lost to BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad by over 1,84,000+ votes.
Making Mamata Proud
The lady pack led the poll results in West Bengal today. All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidates, actresses Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan, made Mamata Banerjee proud today. The political debutantes won the elections by an impressive margin in their respective constituencies.
Chakraborty led in Jadavpur by an impressive 1,84,000+ votes. Jahan, on the other hand, proved victorious in Basirhat with a margin of 1,86,000+ votes.
On YouTube, over 150 news channels are bringing live election results coverage through the day, it added.
These include
, AajTak,,, TV9 Telugu Live, Puthiyathalaimurai TV, Public TV, Asianet News, OTV News and News18 Urdu, among others, the blogpost said.
‘For the 2019 Indian Elections, Doordarshan is bringing inclusive live result experience to users on YouTube… Live audio news will be available on News on AIR YouTube Channel,’ it said.

Protect Data
It seems counter intuitive – after all, social media helps you share your opinions and speak to a larger audience. But thanks to rampant identity theft and online stalking, there is a solid argument to be made to target your social posts instead of keeping them public. Karan Bajaj shows you how.
Modify Privacy Settings
Facebook has a dedicated section for privacy settings and tools (accessible in the Settings menu). In this section, you can choose who can see your future activity. For privacy, select Friends instead of Public. Also on the same page, you get the option to limit accessibility of your existing posts on the social network to only friends instead of everyone. You can also choose individual settings for items such as friend requests, email addresses access, phone number access and who can see your friends list. To step up your privacy, switch all these settings to ‘Friends Only’. We also recommend switching off access to search engines outside of Facebook.
Limit Info On Your Profile
By default, all the information in your profile is in the public domain. To change this, click on your profile picture on the top bar to view your profile. On this page, you can view all the information available to anyone who opens your profile page. Click the edit button (the small pencil icon) that appears inside the intro box and you can then customize your info. We recommend switching off all the items you want to keep private from prying eyes.
Hide Your Photos
Many regular Facebook users tend to upload a lot of photos to share with friends and family. However, you don’t want everyone who visits your profile to have access to all these memories either. One way to hide them is to delete them from Facebook after a few months. The other way is to edit the privacy settings for each photo album. Click on Photos > Albums. For any album that you want to limit access to, click the options button (the three dots on the right corner) on an individual album and choose edit. This will open the privacy settings for the album for which you can select only friends, family or only you.
Protected Tweets
Quite like Instagram, Twitter lets you hide your tweets from the world — this means they’ll only be visible to your existing followers and won’t show up in searches. You will also have to individually approve new followers from that point forward. To do this, go to the ‘Settings and Privacy’ section and look for ‘Privacy and Safety’. Here, you can switch-on the feature marked ‘Protect your Tweets’.
